Harvey County commissioners approved the purchase of a Kubota RTV (model X1100 or equivalent) for use by the county noxious-weed department at a cost of $22,502.65.
Rexhawn, Harvey County Noxious Weed Director, told commissioners the department’s 2007 Kawasaki mule had served well but was reaching the end of its useful life and that a diesel, liquid-cooled Kubota with an enclosed cab and a larger tank would reduce operator exposure and expand spraying capability. He said options include a 100-gallon low-profile tank, a larger hose reel for longer hand-gun work and a receiver-mounted winch system; staff also plan lights, mirrors and a hazard-light kit for limited road use.
Rexhawn said the Kubota could serve multiple county roles if needed and estimated the unit would have a 15–20 year service life. Commissioners noted the new vehicle was budgeted, that trade-in or resale of the old mule would offset cost, and moved to approve the vendor quote. A motion to approve the sourcewell quote from Ravencroft Implement (Ravencroft Implement Incorporated) for $22,502.65 carried by voice vote.
The purchase will allow the department to use boom and boomless spraying methods, improve accuracy for costly herbicide applications and increase safety for employees working in windy or cold conditions. The commission authorized staff to proceed with the acquisition and finalize transaction details.
