Representative Ehart introduced RS31870, a resolution commending the Boise State University women's volleyball team for decisions to forfeit matches against San Jose State after the team raised concerns about a San Jose State competitor's eligibility. "Boise State made a courageous decision," Representative Ehart said, and the resolution commends the team "for taking a stand for women."
Ehart said Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 increased girls' participation in high school and collegiate sports, and she attributed Boise State's actions to protecting fairness and safety. She cited the Sept. 28 game and a scheduled Nov. 21 game that Boise State forfeited, and she said the team also forfeited a Mountain West Tournament match that was the team's pathway to the NCAA tournament. Ehart criticized the Mountain West Conference and the NCAA for allowing the situation to occur and repeated her view that the forfeitures reflected integrity.
Ehart said the governor had weighed in and that "our incoming president, Donald Trump, has made it very clear this is not going to continue to happen," language she used in her remarks. The committee recorded no public questions following the introduction. Representative Palmer moved to introduce RS31870; the committee approved the motion by voice vote. The transcript records no roll-call or tally.
