Avon Grove trims three in‑service days from proposed 2025–26 calendar, asks board for second reading

District staff told the education committee that the proposed 2025–26 district calendar has been revised to remove three in‑service days after consultation with the Avon Grove Education Association (AGA) and that the revised calendar should go to second read at the January legislative meeting.

Staff said the calendar was presented on first read in November and that subsequent discussions with AGA produced a request not to take a memorandum of understanding forward on the original calendar. To align the calendar with the contract, staff said they converted three in‑service days to instructional days: September 15 (a Thursday on the revised calendar), February 12 and April 17. Staff said everything else on the calendar remains the same as the first read version.

Why it matters: The calendar change reduces professional in‑service time while maintaining the instructional day total required by the collective bargaining agreement, according to staff. Board members asked clarifying questions about the specific dates and about flexible instruction days.

Next steps. Staff offered to answer further questions and formally asked that the committee move the calendar to second read at the January legislative meeting. No formal vote was recorded at the committee meeting.
