Commission appoints Chris Fox interim EMA director and agrees to interview internal applicants for permanent role

Commissioners voted on Jan. 7 to appoint Chris Fox as interim director of the county Emergency Management Agency (EMA) after former director Bradley Newdian accepted another position and resigned.

County staff said Bradley had helped build a deputy role in EMA and recommended appointing the deputy as interim director. The commission moved and approved the interim appointment of Chris Fox (voice vote recorded as unanimous).

Separately, administrators presented a plan to interview internal candidates for the permanent director role before posting externally. Commissioners agreed by consensus to have Commissioner Marshall participate in the internal interview panel. Staff said interviews will be scheduled and the commission will receive updates on the selection process.

Ending: Chris Fox will serve as interim EMA director while the county conducts internal interviews and determines next steps for the permanent director search.
