Student representatives Joshua Sagi (seventh grade) and Zoe Schmidt (eighth grade) presented the student board report, describing a planned newsletter, a student contact form and outreach to diversify the student voice across District 57.
“April updates. We are working on a newsletter introducing us. It includes a video and a website from us so that students in the district are aware of who we are and how they can contact the school the student board,” Joshua Sagi said. The students told the board the materials will be shared electronically for older students and via homeroom videos for younger students.
The student board members said they are meeting with a superintendent council that includes other student leaders and that they plan to gather more input from teachers and the Fairview multicultural fair organizers as they plan a district cultural fair. They also said they hope their outreach will make it easier for students districtwide to share suggestions.
Board members praised the students’ work and asked about outreach logistics. The students said email distribution and homeroom presentations will be used; the board suggested collaborating with school media clubs to record interviews and spread awareness.
The student board members’ presentation concluded with a brief Q&A and an invitation for continued feedback. The board requested periodic updates as the newsletter and contact form roll out.
