Commission recommends rezoning for towing and vehicle storage site with perimeter planting condition

The Walton County Planning Commission on May 1 voted to recommend rezoning two acres at 3275 Bridal Mill Road from A-2 to B-3 to allow towing and vehicle storage, forwarding the rezoning to the Board of Commissioners with a condition requiring evergreen plantings inside the buffer around the perimeter.

Applicant Ted Whitlock said the property would be used to store impounded or derelict vehicles, including police impounds and vehicles awaiting insurance pickup. "We use the storage for storing cars, that are impounded through the police jurisdiction, or they're derelict cars, or private property impounds," Whitlock told the commission.

There was no public opposition at the meeting. County staff and commissioners asked for perimeter screening; one commissioner moved approval conditioned on evergreen plantings within the buffer line and inside any new fence. The motion carried and the rezoning will be on the Board of Commissioners agenda next month.

The commission’s action was limited to a recommendation; final approval rests with the Board of Commissioners.
