County receives grant approval for $446,900 cybersecurity upgrade; rollout to begin

Scott County officials told the fiscal court May 2 they received final approval to proceed with a cybersecurity grant totaling $446,900.

Court members said the grant will cover desktop replacement, virtual servers and desktops, firewall and threat‑protection management, assisted migration and related consulting services. Staff described the award as the result of a sustained effort and said the county will not spend the full amount immediately but will begin procurement and phased implementation under grant compliance rules.

Staff also said they are preparing another grant application to seek additional funding for ongoing cybersecurity upgrades and that the grant money was already budgeted for this fiscal year. Court members asked staff to estimate long‑term recurring costs for cloud and managed services once the one‑time grant funding ends; staff said they will return with projected ongoing costs.
