Board authorizes First Green cleaning contracts at Johnson, Woodfill and Highlands High for 2025–26

FORT THOMAS, Ky. — The Fort Thomas Independent Schools Board on Monday authorized the superintendent to enter into cleaning services agreements with First Green Building Services at three campuses for the 2025–26 school year.

The board approved separate motions to authorize contracts at Johnson Elementary, Woodfill Elementary and Highlands High School. The agreements are proposed to begin Aug. 1; district materials presented monthly cost figures of approximately $8,650 per month for Johnson, roughly $8,750 per month for Woodfill, and about $20,750 per month for Highlands High School. The administration said First Green would provide consistent nightly cleaning crews and that the approach was budget neutral when compared to prior staffing costs after transfers and reassignments.

District leaders told trustees the contracts are intended to address evening coverage gaps, provide consistent substitute coverage for building supervisors, and improve cleanliness at the high school. Board members discussed retention and recruitment challenges for classified custodial staff and said the contracts were a way to stabilize services without reducing district employees.

Each motion to authorize the superintendent to sign the agreements passed by voice vote. The administration said First Green will provide summer services under alternate terms and that the district reserved contract flexibility to address vendor price changes during the year.
