Two Seminole Ridge High School students showed a one-minute public-safety video about riding etiquette and asked the Town of Loxahatchee Groves Roadway, Trails and Greenway Advisory Committee how best to shape and distribute it.
The PSA opened with the line, “In the acreage, horseback riding isn't just a hobby. It's a way of life…,” which the students said they produced after interviewing community members. The students, Tamsen Lee and Reagan Bresnahan, told the committee they can adjust length and language depending on where the video will be posted and can create additional versions, including one dubbed or subtitled in Spanish.
Community Standards Director Karen Gardner Young introduced the students and told the committee the town can host the video on its website and that the town’s public information officer could advise on distribution. The committee discussed the target audience and content. Committee member Katie Lakeman said driver education should be the priority: “I would like to see the focus, of any PSA really be more so on the driver of the vehicle.”
Members suggested local placement and additional platforms: staff said the PSA could be made into shorter clips for social media and that local TV stations could carry a brief public-service spot. Committee members also suggested including local landmarks in the footage so viewers recognize where the guidance applies and recruiting town or county mounted-unit participation to lend authority and improve safety during filming.
No formal motion or vote was taken on the PSA. Committee members asked staff to follow up with the students, obtain a shareable link to the video, and return recommended distribution options and any town-council steps required for approval. The students agreed to provide a link and contact information so staff could coordinate next steps.
