Board OKs food‑service participation and indirect‑cost election for 2025–26

IRVING, Ky. — The Estill County Board of Education on May 15 approved the district’s annual food‑service participation documents and an election to claim allowable indirect costs from the school lunch program for the coming year.

Jeremy Brock, staff member, described the action as an annual routine: the district affirms its intent to participate in the community eligibility provisions and may claim some indirect costs from the food‑service program for personnel and related expenses.

Tammy Hardy moved to approve the food‑service requirements; Sheila Samples seconded. The board approved the documents by voice vote (chair announced motion carried 4‑0).

Brock told the board the indirect‑cost allowance is standard practice and helps the general fund cover personnel‑related overhead that supports the food service operation. The board did not receive a line‑item calculation of the indirect cost amount at the meeting.

Administration will finalize required forms and maintain documentation for state and federal auditors as part of routine food‑service administration.
