Public Health Committee accepts donated painting inspired by shelter adoptions

The Kane County Public Health Committee voted to accept a donation of artwork to the county animal‑control viewing room on Oct. 22.

The resolution presented to the committee described a 16‑by‑20 acrylic painting by artist Carolyn Barnard, who the county said adopted two cats, Jack and Zelda, in February 2017. Brett Youngstead, who presented the item for animal control, said Barnard wanted the piece displayed in the viewing room because the animals that inspired the painting came from the county facility.

Committee members briefly discussed placement and fundraising partnerships; the committee passed the resolution to accept the donation. The committee then thanked staff for their work and discussed possible future murals or additional artist partnerships for the facility.

Ending: Staff said the painting will be installed in the viewing room to be seen by prospective adopters.
