Commissioners approve sign variance and additional signage at 101 Mackenzie Drive (Circle K)

The Glynn County Board of Commissioners approved a sign-variance request allowing more than the 500 square feet of signage ordinarily permitted and two ground pylon signs at 101 Mackenzie Drive, a planned Circle K site.

County planning staff said the applicant applied for permit SGN25-28 and proposed a combined 806 square feet of signage, including two ground (pylon) signs that together account for roughly 412 square feet. Staff summarized the applicant’s stated hardship as sign-visibility issues for passing motorists and large vehicles and the presence of diesel/high-flow pumps that warrant additional wayfinding.

Staff displayed site plans showing canopy signage, store signage and two pylon signs—one at the corner and one on Mackenzie Drive—and told commissioners the package reflects Circle K’s typical signage plan for similar sites. Public comment included support from a resident who said visible digital pricing and messaging are important for competition and driver convenience; an attorney for the applicant, Chris Posey, was present to answer questions.

A commissioner moved to approve ZV-25-15 as presented; the motion was seconded and approved on the record. The approved package exceeds the county’s 500-square-foot threshold and authorizes two ground signs and the additional canopy/store signage described in the application. The county will proceed with the permit review consistent with the approved variance and any applicable building-permit requirements.
