Resident urges restoration of Cedar Lane bus service after route changes

Libby Michaels, a resident of 5411 Wossman Road, testified during public comment that the removal of Bus 90 has left Cedar Lane without bus service and urged the Knoxville Transportation Authority to restore transit access for the neighborhood.

Michaels described how Bus 90 previously connected her to a pharmacy, Walmart, Inskip Library, downtown and medical appointments. She said she learned after the fact that Bus 90 was removed under the "CAT Reimagined" plan approved April 25, 2024, and that Cedar Lane now lacks both bus service and sidewalks.

"The bus service is necessary," Michaels said, asking the board to "make a step forward, not backwards, to provide efficient, accessible, and reliable transit service on Cedar Lane." She said many Cedar Lane residents would pay for service and that some riders would use transit for stadium events if service were available.

Board members thanked Michaels for her testimony; staff did not commit to a route restoration during the meeting. Commissioners scheduled the next board meeting for June 26.
