District says targeted hire boosted Medicaid reimbursements by more than previous years

District administrators told the St. Joseph School Board that creating a staff position focused on capturing direct‑service Medicaid reimbursements has increased reimbursements substantially.

Dr. Edgar reported the district’s direct‑service reimbursements rose from $775,000 in February 2022 to $812,000 in February 2023 and to $1,248,000 in 2024 to date; he said an additional payment was expected on June 13. “That position paid for itself 10 times over,” Dr. Edgar said, thanking staff who supported the work.

A board member noted that the district had not been recovering many of these reimbursements before the position existed and credited the hire—identified in discussion as Courtney—for improving recovery. When a board member asked to confirm the revenue source, staff affirmed the payments were Medicaid reimbursements.

Administrators said the district is continuing to pursue all allowable reimbursements and will return with any follow‑up details if board members request them. No formal board action was required; the presentation was informational.

Staff did not provide an itemized ledger at the meeting; administrators said additional documentation can be supplied to the board on request.
