The Punta Gorda Code Enforcement Board on May 28 found that the property at 1601 Norongia Street remained out of compliance with a Jan. 22 compliance order and imposed a $1,800 fine representing $50 per day for 36 days of noncompliance, plus unpaid case costs totaling $110.
Code Compliance Officer Meredith Achtenberg reported the Jan. 22 compliance order required repair or replacement of missing or damaged soffit, fascia and siding and removal of outside storage within 90 days. A reinspection on April 29 and another on May 27 found the soffit, fascia and some siding remained unrepaired and outside storage (including a trailer) remained on the property. Achtenberg said the initial hearing order was posted and mailed; notices for the penalty hearing were mailed and posted; certified mailing was not returned as delivered.
Board members observed some siding repairs in photos but noted the soffit and outside storage were still outstanding. After discussion, the board voted to find the respondent in violation of the compliance order and imposed the $1,800 penalty (36 days × $50/day) plus interest at 9.5% per annum; case costs of $110 must be paid within 30 days. The board said the fine continues to run until compliance is achieved.
