County parks staff told the Board of Supervisors Wednesday that Westland Beach dredging and beach nourishment are underway and that railing materials for the pier have been delivered and staged for installation.
Parks staff presented photographs showing dredge material being offloaded and placed on the beach for dewatering; they said the recovered material is mixed-grain sand and that the revegetation phase will occur in the fall when planting conditions improve. Staff also confirmed a temporary railing was installed in front of the pier to prevent public access while the pier and related repairs remain unsafe.
Phase 1 dredging and nourishment work remains in progress and channel markers will be placed upon completion of dredging. Staff said phase 2 site work has begun and that substantial completion of phase 2 is targeted for October with final completion in November. Staff also reported that railings have been staged at the dock and that, weather permitting, installation will occur soon; they noted the contractor is exploring the possibility of a July 4 ribbon cutting.
Staff provided updates on other park projects: Taylor Creek Park design and permits have been submitted to county and state agencies with bid publication expected in September and construction in 2026 pending agency responses; Carter Cove site design is still in progress with an anticipated bid cycle beginning early 2026; Bridal Trail phase 1a is open and phase 1b construction remains on hold due to a funding freeze while acquisition for phase 2 continues. A board member asked about the timeline for putting railings onto the pier and staff said they had delivered the railings and expected installation to proceed when weather allows.
Parks staff said they will bring more detailed photos and schedule updates to future meetings.
