Council authorizes IO Solutions contract for police promotional testing

Council voted May 28 to authorize an agreement with IO Solutions to provide civil‑service promotional testing for the Mayfield Heights Police Department.

Police leadership recommended IO Solutions, which the department has used for the past four years for promotional testing. The chief said the company provided "the most accurate, and comprehensive" testing the department has used and that he had experience with the process both as a candidate and as chief. The chief's memo noted the department’s previous eligibility list for promotions expired in July 2024, creating the need for new testing.

Law director John Schmidlin read Resolution 2025‑26, which authorizes the mayor to enter into an agreement with IO Solutions to provide promotional testing services and declares an emergency to expedite procurement. Council moved to suspend the rules and approved the resolution after a roll call vote. Council members said they had previously used and been satisfied with IO Solutions' services; no council members objected.

The resolution directs the mayor and relevant city staff to execute a contract with IO Solutions so the department can develop a new promotional eligibility list. The city did not discuss contract dollar amounts or detailed timelines during the meeting.
