The Des Moines County Board of Supervisors received a report that the Workforce Development Board terminated its contract with its one-stop operator. The board did not discuss replacement details at the meeting; the workforce board report was provided in the committee reports section.
Conservation Director Chris Lee told the board that staff had concluded they could not repair an old water line to the nature center because the buried line does not follow archived maps and attempting repairs would cause additional damage. "We finally concluded that we just could not fix the city water line ... We decided it was gonna be more cost effective to just have a new new line brought in," Lee said, adding that staff submitted a claim to obtain grant funding for work near the nature center and that events such as a jamboree and Brown River Days were being scheduled.
Separately, a board member announced work on the county hazard mitigation plan update and invited volunteers from across the county to participate in a short committee of about three meetings. "We're actually looking for volunteers from all corners of the county to participate ... It's only 3 meetings, so it's not a lot," the board member said.
No formal decisions were made about workforce contracting or conservation capital projects at the meeting; the items were reported for information and follow-up.
