The selectmen voted on June 4 to dissolve Wolfeboro’s intermunicipal agreement with the town of Alton establishing a joint Lakes Region household hazardous-waste collection facility.
Town staff reported that Alton had voted to dissolve the joint agreement and that Wolfeboro has confirmed there is no active hauler contract that would obligate the town beyond the dissolution. The board voted to dissolve the intermunicipal agreement under the agreement’s section 8.4 (dated Aug. 1, 2022) and instructed staff to finalize accounting of remaining funds and to notify the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office as required.
Why it matters: The Lakes Region household hazardous-waste program provides periodic collection events for residents; dissolving the intermunicipal agreement affects regional coordination and may require Wolfeboro to identify alternate collection arrangements or to rely on Lakes Region Planning Commission collection events.
Board action and next steps: The motion was moved and seconded and carried on a 4–1 voice vote. Town staff will finalize the balance of funds, inform Alton and the AG’s office, and confirm arrangements for the Wolfeboro collection event scheduled June 21, 2025 (08:30–12:00), which town staff said residents of Wolfeboro may use free of charge at other Lakes Region collection sites this season.
Ending: Selectmen approved the dissolution and asked staff to return with a final accounting and notification steps completed for the AG’s office.
