The Great Neck Board of Education and district leaders recognized dozens of teachers and staff who recently received tenure during the board’s public meeting.
Superintendent Kenneth Bossert opened the recognitions and presented a SCOPE‑sponsored $1,000 award to senior essayist Amelia Liao. Building principals then introduced and praised teachers granted tenure at Village School, North Middle, North High, South Middle, South High and SEAL programs.
Village School Principal Steve Goldberg praised Christina Cochran’s adaptability and rapport with SEAL students. North Middle Principal Bridal Nelson introduced six educators — Alex Keane, Anne Wang, Joanna Bridal, Andrew Bookbinder, Sabrina Morelli and Kelly Murray — describing their classroom work, extracurricular contributions and student relationships. North High’s Dr. Holtzman presented five candidates recommended for tenure, including Scott Eckers, Brian Hartwig, Matt Singer, Eric Stark and Mitu Grama, and highlighted classroom innovation and community engagement. South Middle Principal Gina Cardellano presented Jessie Sabino and Nathan Wong; South High Principal Adam Hopkins introduced seven tenure recipients including Samantha Bindrim, Loriana Demercian, Scott Feldman, Megan Hyman, Kathleen Learn, Emma Van Dyne and Jesse D’Alivo.
Bossert told the board he met individually with each candidate and said the recommendations reflect “small moment connections” teachers make with students and the high standards the district expects. He said granting tenure is one of “the most substantial decisions” the board makes because those teachers will shape the district’s future.
The board’s actions accepting the administration’s recommendations had occurred earlier in the process; this meeting served primarily as a public recognition and photo opportunity. Tenure recipients were asked to remain after the recess for group photos and refreshments. Board President Grant Tock congratulated the teachers and emphasized continued expectations for performance and leadership.
No personnel details beyond the recognitions were discussed in public; the board later moved into executive session for a separate personnel matter.
