Court renews Santos Luna salvage-yard license after fire marshal inspection, requires follow-up checks

Van Zandt County Commissioners Court voted to renew the annual license for Santos Luna d/b/a Santos Towing to operate an automotive wrecking and salvage yard at 30782 State Highway 64, Wills Point, Van Zandt County.

A commissioner brought the application forward after receiving complaints about site upkeep and requested the county fire marshal inspect the property. Staff reported that the fire marshal inspected the site, found significant progress toward compliance but noted some remaining minor items, and recommended renewing the license with continued oversight.

The commissioner who presented the item said the owner had made “a really lot of progress” and had shown willingness to comply. The court moved and seconded the license renewal and voted by voice to approve it. The presenting commissioner asked that the fire marshal continue inspections to ensure outstanding items are completed; the court agreed that the marshal would monitor compliance.

The court did not adopt a formal enforcement timetable at the meeting; staff said the marshal will perform follow-up inspections and report back if the remaining items are not corrected.
