Mason, who said he was recently elected president of the Bath Christmas Project, addressed the Morgan County Commission on June 4 to thank commissioners for prior support and to ask for continued backing for the holiday lighting displays.
Mason described the project’s seasonal displays along Washington Street and said the event brings thousands of visitors over the holiday season. He said the project partners with the Chamber of Commerce, Travel Berkeley Springs, Morgan County Commission, the town council, the Cast Castle Foundation and the Berkeley Springs Lions Club. Mason said he will submit a budget to the county soon and asked whether the commission would support the project going forward.
Mason also said he is exploring a separate lighting display on a privately owned parking lot that he would offer for public viewing in the evenings; he said one prior estimate for a rental installation was about $18,000 and that he would be willing to contribute financially or provide the site as a canvas for a display.
Mason closed by extending an open invitation to commissioners and county staff to view the display concepts and by thanking the commission for past assistance. No formal county commitment or appropriation was requested at the meeting; Mason said a budget submission will be provided for formal consideration.
