Edgefield County Council approved an amendment to the solid-waste special revenue fund to cover a hauling-rate increase passed down from regional waste authorities.
County Administrator Dean explained the adjustment: Tri County Solid Waste Authority and 3 Rivers Solid Waste Authority increased hauling rates, which required Edgefield to amend its special-revenue budget by $17,800. Dean said the increase stems from a $2-per‑ton rise at the regional level and that the countyontractor
llocation translates to roughly 9,000 tons for Edgefield, resulting in the $17,800 shortfall.
Councilmember Mr. Moody moved the amendment and Miss Ireland seconded. The council approved moving $17,800 from the solid-waste reserve fund into the operating budget; members emphasized that the county was not increasing the $100 solid-waste fee and that the change was a bookkeeping adjustment to cover new hauling costs.
The chair noted the 3 Rivers board finalized the regional change the following day and said the five‑year hauling contract was expected to lock the rate for a period but counseled monitoring future adjustments.
