Edgefield County Council unanimously awarded multiple contracts for building maintenance and renovation, including asbestos abatement and flooring replacement across several county buildings.
The county administrator told council that asbestos was discovered beneath carpet in the Clemson extension offices; because carpet was glued to tile containing asbestos, removal required licensed abatement. The county solicited three bids; two did not meet specifications. Chaplain and Sons submitted the single compliant bid and was recommended for asbestos abatement, disposal and post-project cleaning at $31,375. "We recommend going with Chaplain and Sons," the administrator said.
Council also approved awarding Gore Construction the flooring and plumbing-fixture replacement at the Recreation Building for $32,000 and carpet replacement in the treasurer
nd voter-registration offices. RG Novelo received the award for carpet replacement in the voter-registration office for $9,335; the administrator noted Novelo is already performing tile work in that building.
All contract awards were approved by voice/hand vote with no dissents. Councilmembers asked staff to monitor costs and confirmed the bids were within anticipated budgets.
