Commission adopts budget amendment adding vehicles, storage building and lifeguard towers

The City Commission adopted on second reading Ordinance BA 24‑25‑O4, a budget amendment that adds items discussed at the commission’s workshop to the city’s operating and capital improvements budget for the 2024‑25 fiscal year.

Staff told the commission the amendment includes funding for five vehicles (approximately $170,000 total), $110,000 for a storage building for the public‑works department and funding for lifeguard towers the commission requested at an earlier meeting. The ordinance was presented on second reading and adopted during the meeting.

There were no public speakers on the item and no substantive debate; commissioners moved and seconded the ordinance and voted in favor. The city manager was authorized to implement the items and to take steps necessary to procure and place the vehicles and begin the building project.

Next steps: Purchase orders and procurement actions will follow per the city’s purchasing rules and the approved budget amendment; staff indicated the vehicle purchases were timed to take advantage of current availability and avoid future price increases.
