At its May 27 meeting the Village of Patchogue board approved a resolution allowing CTUC Environmental Association to install floating docks at Mascot Dock as part of an oyster recovery and education partnership.
The resolution authorizes CTUC to install and connect floating docks and requires a fence at the connection point to control access. Installation was scheduled to commence Thursday, May 29, and will be supervised by the Department of Public Works. The village clerk was tasked with reviewing certificates of insurance prior to installation; meeting participants said the required insurance was on file.
Trustees and staff described the project as both ecological and educational. The program will include student participation and is intended to help seed oysters on the bay bottom and provide hands‑on learning opportunities. Staff described similar work underway in neighboring Bayport‑Blue Point and noted coordination with Cornell Cooperative Extension in regional oyster recovery efforts.
Implementation details recorded in the meeting include DPW supervision of installation, review and acceptance of insurance certificates by the clerk, and limited access to the floating docks via fenced connection. No litigation, lease or long‑term maintenance agreement was discussed on the record during the meeting.
