Warrenton staff to pursue MoDOT sidewalk design grant to connect city limits

City Administrator Brandy Walters told the Warrenton Board of Aldermen Tuesday that she will pursue a Missouri Department of Transportation design grant to extend sidewalks from Route 70 to Veterans Memorial, covering the area adjacent to the new overpass.

Walters said the grant would be for design only and could cover up to 80% of design costs. She described the scope as connecting sidewalks "from 70 to Veterans Memorial" and said the design phase would determine whether sidewalks are installed on one or both sides of the roadway.

An alderman asked whether there is any other plan for sidewalks if the grant is not approved; Walters replied, "Not right now. Not at this time." The board discussed next steps and a member suggested pursuing the grant and bringing forward the work in the form of an ordinance or bill should the grant application proceed.

No formal vote was recorded; aldermen indicated support and asked staff to advance the grant application and to return with an ordinance or bill should the grant be pursued.
