Abbeville council approves two special-event permits: Save the Ville homecoming and Rotary District 6200 conference

The Abbeville City Council approved two special-event permits: one for Alyssa Scott to hold the “Save the Ville Homecoming Community Event” in McKinley Park on June 21 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and one for the Abbeville Rotary Club to hold Rotary District 6200’s conference in Magdalene Square on May 2, 2026, from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The Save the Ville permit was moved by Councilman Campbell and seconded by Councilwoman Terry. A council member read the event flyer and noted invitations, live entertainment, a motivational speaker, food and drinks, and that school supplies would be accepted. The council approved the permit contingent on obtaining required city permits; staff confirmed the applicant had been in contact with the city permitting office.

The Rotary permit was moved by Councilman Plezos and seconded by Councilwoman Terry and also passed. A council member noted the event will draw Rotarians from a wide area (from Houma to Lake Charles), that Chris Duyon, an Abbeville Rotarian who owns a shop on Saint Charles Street, is the incoming district president, and that the Rotary applicant had applied for the required permits and insurance in advance.

Both permits passed on voice votes with no recorded opposition.
