The Lancaster County Wetlands Board voted unanimously to approve an erosion-control project at Windmill Point, presented on behalf of property owner Keith Kalavec.
Scott, an agent with Saltier Solutions representing Kalavec, told the board the camp at Windmill Point had experienced erosion over the past six to nine months. He recommended constructing a walling along the side of an existing pier and installing sand fencing adjacent to a dune to trap wind-blown sand and reduce ongoing erosion.
“...probably the best idea would be to just go ahead and put a walling right along the side of that pier,” Scott said, and he also recommended sand fencing to catch drifting sand.
Olivia, wetlands staff, reported that county staff had no comment on the application, and the local marine resources commission likewise offered no comment. A board member moved to approve the project “as it’s presented”; the motion carried on a unanimous 5–0 vote.
The approved work will remove eroded material adjacent to the pier and add structural and vegetative measures intended to stabilize that shoreline segment. The permit documentation in the hearing record contains no stated cost figures or construction schedule.
