Board approves family and consumer science renovation and related CTC collaboration; project capped at $200,000

The board approved a family and consumer science classroom renovation and additions with a not-to-exceed price of $200,000. The project will go out to public bid and includes use of career and technical education (CTC) students’ drafting-class designs as part of the planning.

Board members explained the figure represents a not-to-exceed cap; the administration said the contract will be publicly bid and the district will share awarded contract numbers when available. The board discussed using existing appliances on hand and the possibility of soliciting donated cabinetry or materials from local contractors. “We’re using Mr. Hoye’s drafting class in the CTC program to design these changes,” a board member said, describing it as a hands-on student opportunity that could serve as a template for other schools.

Several board members praised the CTC collaboration and noted that the project could be repeated at other schools as a model. The motion passed on roll call; members asked administration to seek donated materials where appropriate and to return with awarded-contract details after bidding.
