Council approves ordinance allowing landscaping businesses in low-density residential zones by conditional use

The City Council held a second reading and adopted Ordinance 2555 on May 27, amending the Centralia Municipal Code (Title 20) to allow landscaping businesses to operate in low-density residential zoning districts under a conditional-use permit.

Deputy City Manager Amy Buckler said there were no changes between the first and second readings. The council opened the item for public comment and, finding none, proceeded to a vote. The ordinance passed 7–0.

The ordinance changes the permitted-use framework for low-density zones by adding landscaping businesses as conditionally allowed uses; the measure requires landscaping businesses seeking to operate in those zones to obtain a conditional-use permit and comply with conditions set by the city as part of that permitting process.

No amendments or new funding were attached to the ordinance at the second-reading vote.
