Council authorizes CPL for Northside fire station concept design

Binghamton City Council on Wednesday adopted a resolution authorizing the mayor to enter into an agreement with CPL to perform initial study and concept design for a proposed Northside Fire Station.

Council member Hotchkiss presented R25-32 and said CPL won the request-for-qualifications process; the firm will complete an initial study and concept design. The resolution passed 5-0.

Council members described preliminary design expectations — a roughly rectangular building with three or four apparatus doors and a decorative brick façade was mentioned in general terms — and asked about site selection. No final site was selected during the meeting; members said property choice will be determined later in the planning process.

The resolution moves the project into the concept-design phase; staff said further reporting and site analysis will follow and council directed that design concepts be brought forward for public review.
