County accepts $100,000 donation for road work; commissioners approve Falconwood subdivision plat

Van Zandt County commissioners accepted a $100,000 donation from property owner Terry Wheeler to rebuild roughly 1,500 feet of County Road 3811 in Precinct 3 and approved the Falconwood Addition subdivision plat connected to that development.

Commissioner comments explained the road fronts Mr. Wheeler's property and that Mr. Wheeler had deposited a $100,000 check with county officials. The commissioner leading the item said the donation would be used for moving the road alignment five feet, adding about 10 feet of easement Mr. Wheeler granted, and rebuilding the base and drainage. The commissioner said the county hoped to have the work completed by mid‑August but that weather delays may extend the timeline.

The court voted to accept the donation and then approved the Falconwood Addition subdivision plat, which covers about 74.68 acres and divides the property into 14 tracts ranging from about 1.72 acres upward. County staff confirmed required plats and road frontage provisions had been reviewed and that necessary easements were coordinated with county engineers.

Commissioners thanked Mr. Wheeler for the donation and said staff will coordinate contracting and scheduling with precinct crews and contractors.
