Council appoints John Stekman to planning commission

The Cottage Grove City Council appointed John Stekman to fill a vacancy on the Planning Commission.

Council Member Olson said he interviewed two candidates, John Stekman and Casey Thompson, and recommended Stekman for the open seat. Olson noted Stekman is a long‑time Cottage Grove resident who works as an attorney for the City of St. Paul and described him as “level‑headed” and experienced with municipal issues. Olson asked colleagues to take the appointment under advisement.

Council Member Claussen moved to appoint John Stekman; Council Member Olson’s motion was seconded by Council Member Claussen. The motion carried on a voice vote. Olson said staff will continue to work with Casey Thompson on other volunteer opportunities.
