Board sets alcohol server ID fee at $30 total ($15 background, $15 badge)

Spalding County established a fee schedule on June 16 requiring employees who serve or sell alcohol to obtain a county‑issued server ID. The board approved a $30 total fee composed of a $15 background check and a $15 badge fee.

Director Allen explained that changes to the county’s alcohol ordinance that take effect July 1 require employees of restaurants, grocery stores, liquor stores and convenience stores that serve alcohol to obtain a county‑issued badge after passing a background check. Staff reported neighboring jurisdictions charge between $25 and $30 total; staff recommended a $35 total fee but the board adopted $30 total (split $15 background check, $15 badge). The board approved the fee schedule by voice vote, 3–0.

Staff said the background check fee is $15 and is assessed to all applicants; the county will issue a photo badge using recently received equipment once the background check clears. The board noted a preference not to set the fee below $30 to cover administrative costs.
