Under communications, board members discussed a request from the Village of Shorewood for the district to oppose a proposed set of three solar farm projects along a corridor west of Black Road and County Line Road.
A district representative reported that Will County Land Use had not approved the project and that the village’s planning and zoning/land-use process would continue through county review. The representative said Shorewood officials view the specific proposal as creating a “line of solar fields” that could limit residential or commercial expansion. “It would put a line of solar farms separating either commercial, residential, mixed use,” the staff member said.
The board indicated support for drafting a letter in opposition to that particular project; one board member said, “I’m good with a letter of support for sure. I agree.” The district staff said they would draft language and share it with Shorewood officials for inclusion in county packets if the board approves the final letter.
The transcript records that the village administrator Aaron Klima was consulted by staff and that other local elected bodies had been approached for support. The board did not take a formal roll-call vote to send the letter during the recorded exchange; staff said they would prepare a draft and circulate it for the board’s review.
