The Carmel Unified School District Board voted to declare its intention to sell a small surplus parcel on Robinson Canyon Road, commonly referred to in the meeting as the Robinson Barn property, and authorized staff to advertise the property for public sale by competitive bidding.
Chief Business Official Yvonne Perez presented a five‑page resolution (Resolution No. 25‑12) that summarizes the district’s prior actions on the property, including previous surplus declarations in 2023 and 2024 and an offer from Monterey County that was later withdrawn in August 2024. Perez said the parcel is roughly 1,800 square feet, has no current or future educational use and that, following the required priority offer process to public agencies and nonprofits, the district can now proceed to public sale “as outlined in Ed. Code and in the resolution.”
Perez told the board that a barn on the property was destroyed by fire in February 2025. The resolution sets a minimum bid of $200,000; staff will advertise the property, receive sealed bids by Sept. 5 and open the bids publicly during the board’s Sept. 10 meeting.
Board members asked about the consequences of not approving the resolution. Perez said failing to declare intent to sell could expose the district to potential surplus‑property penalties and that the district “doesn’t really have any purpose for it” other than disposition.
With no public comments on the item, the board adopted Resolution No. 25‑12. The recorded roll call shows Board President Jason Remenzi, Board Member Sarah Hines and Board Member Matt Glaser voting yes; Board Clerk Jake Odello and Board Member Rita Patel were absent.
