The Carrollton‑Farmers Branch ISD Board of Trustees on Tuesday certified the returns of the May 3 trustee general election, administered oaths to newly elected trustees and elected board officers in open session.
“As a district, we dedicate all of our efforts and resources to our goal of high expectations for all,” Trustee Randy Shachman said as the meeting opened at 5:02 p.m. The board recessed at 5:09 p.m. for a short reception and reconvened at 5:25 p.m., then held officer elections before adjourning at 5:50 p.m.
The board announced that, in accordance with the returns of votes cast at the trustee general election on May 3, Kim Brady, Ileana Garza Rojas and Paul Gilmore received the highest vote totals and have been elected to three‑year terms. Each was issued a certificate of election and completed the required statement of officer; Justice of the Peace Blanca Oliver administered the oath of office.
During the open meeting, trustees conducted officer elections under Robert’s Rules of Order, which the board cited for nomination procedure. Cassandra Hatfield was nominated and elected board president in a 4–3 vote. Trustee Ileana Garza Rojas and Trustee Randy Shachman were the other named nominees; Hatfield received four votes to Shachman’s three.
The board then held the vice president election. Ileana Garza Rojas and Kim Brady were nominated from the floor; Kim Brady won the vice presidency by a 5–2 tally. For board secretary, Ileana Garza Rojas was nominated and, with no other nominations, was declared elected.
The meeting included a short closed session called to deliberate appointment and evaluation of officers for the coming year; the board recessed to a conference room for that closed session before returning to open session to complete the officer elections.
The Carrollton‑Farmers Branch ISD Board of Trustees listed board members present at the start of the meeting as Kim Brady, Marjorie Barnes, Carolyn Benavides, Ileana Garza Rojas, Cassandra Hatfield and Randy Shachman. The board said it will resume a pre‑meeting at 6:00 p.m.; it adjourned the special meeting at 5:50 p.m.
