Board members requested a formal report and workshop presentation on the district’s dual-enrollment and accelerated-credit program, and staff said they would provide basic numbers and cohort details at the August board workshop.
During the curriculum and instruction discussion, a board member asked for an update on the program. Staff cited preliminary figures when describing recent student outcomes: roughly 430 units earned and about 38 students participating in the described cohort. Staff gave examples including a ninth-grade student who completed 21 units and a senior who completed 38 units over a two-year period. Board members said those figures were notable and pressed for more detailed data on completion rates, how many students dropped out of the program and the counseling supports required to translate units into associate degrees.
Staff noted that earning the units alone may not satisfy all degree requirements; a board member emphasized that students must declare a major and complete major-specific coursework to obtain an AA degree. Staff said counseling capacity is in flux and that Kathleen (a counselor referenced by staff) had stepped in; the district agreed to bring data on cohort size, unit counts, dropouts and reasons students left the program to the workshop.
The board directed staff to prepare more detailed figures and analyses for the workshop so trustees can review program outcomes, retention and counseling needs.
