Yuma County proclaims June 2025 Safety Month; announces safety summit, cooling centers, waste-fee changes and voter deadlines

Chairman Portales read a proclamation declaring June 2025 as Safety Month in Yuma County and thanked county safety staff for their work.

Carlos Marquez, the county’s safety and security coordinator, told the board the safety division will hold a safety summit on Thursday in partnership with the city of Yuma and ADOSH and thanked the board for its continued support of safety programs.

At the presentations segment the board also received the county government channel "The Mix" update, which noted that the Arizona Supreme Court held public events and oral arguments in Yuma late in May, and that Yuma native Marielena Cruz was formally invested as a justice of the Arizona Supreme Court. The update also advised residents that the Yuma County waste-hauler facility implemented new disposal fees earlier in the month to help maintain capacity amid increasing volumes, and that cooling centers are open across the county as temperatures approach triple digits.

Elections staff reminded residents that the registration deadline for the special primary election in Congressional District 7 is June 16, 2025, at 11:59 p.m.; registrations are accepted online, by mail or in person at the Yuma County Recorder’s Office. The Mix update directed residents to yumacountyaz.gov for details on cooling centers, disposal fees and recorded episodes of the county’s video updates.

The proclamation and these informational items were presented as non-actionable agenda items; no board action was required beyond the ceremonial proclamation.
