IT staff briefed the board about renewing the county’s VMware licensing through the county’s IT services partner, ISG. Staff described VMware as the virtualization platform that lets the county consolidate multiple server workloads onto a smaller number of physical servers.
Staff said the county previously paid about $9,300 for VMware for a three‑year period and that the current three‑year renewal price has risen roughly $2,000 compared with that prior contract. Staff characterized VMware as a market with few alternatives and said ISG serves as the county’s reseller and installer; the county will pay ISG who will in turn procure the license and install it.
Staff indicated the renewal would be an upfront one-time fee covering three years and that the purchase is routine, part of core IT licensing. Commissioners did not take an immediate vote during the study session; IT staff said the renewal appears on the afternoon agenda for formal action.
