Dakota County officials said emergency preparedness staff coordinated with the City of Randolph after a water main/well shaft failure left the town without water on June 2; county staff prepared vendors and resources and maintained contact with local officials while water service was restored.
The county manager described how the mayor of Randolph contacted a commissioner, who in turn contacted county emergency management staff and the county manager. County emergency preparedness staff, including Kelly Miller from Emergency Preparedness and Management, “jumped right into action,” the county manager said, contacting vendors and arranging for water, portable toilets and hand‑washing stations should they be needed.
County officials said the town of about 360 residents had limited local staff and that the community was fortunate outside resources were available quickly; water began refilling the tower the evening after the break. The mayor expressed gratitude to county staff for the response, the county manager said.
Commissioners commended county emergency management for readiness and rapid coordination. The county manager noted that these behind‑the‑scenes preparedness and vendor relationships are part of the county’s routine emergency support to cities and townships.
