The Cumming City Council voted 5-0 to award a $98,825 contract to Jasper Grading to mill and resurface Northside Forsyth Drive.
City staff presented the project and said the city issued a request for proposals that produced seven bids, and recommended the low bidder, Jasper Grading. The council approved the contract by voice vote with a 5-0 tally.
The project came after staff concluded that the road required milling and resurfacing rather than only restriping. Staff read the seven bids aloud during the meeting: Vertical Earth, $111,284.27; Baldwin Paving, $123,304.40; Allied Paving, $139,275.25; Jasper Grading, $98,825.00; Stewart Brothers, $105,094.40; Bridal R Paving and Construction, $128,716.00; and Summit Paving, $118,149.25. The presenter said Jasper Grading’s $98,825 proposal was the low bid and recommended for approval.
Phil, a city staff member who presented the item, described the expected timeline and traffic impacts: “Their best guess is 4 days. 4 days should be all of the groundwork plus temporary striping. And then about 2 weeks later after the asphalt cures, they'll come back and do the permanent striping at that time.” Phil added that the work will be staged so the city “can keep traffic flowing” and that a hospital in the area has a secondary entrance on Northside Boulevard to preserve access.
The council’s motion to approve the Jasper Grading contract was made and seconded and carried 5-0. The meeting record does not specify the contract’s funding source or the project start date.
The city will move forward with executing the contract and scheduling the work; staff did not state a firm start date at the meeting.
