The Jim Wells County commissioners court approved an interlocal agreement with the City of Fremont to allow the city to replace and maintain a cowboy sign located on county park property.
County staff said the sign has been at the site since about 1966 and that Fremont requested permission to change the sign. The agreement grants the city permission to modify the sign and includes a 25-year term. Staff said the city will install a separate electrical meter so the county will not continue to carry the city’s electricity costs.
County staff member (identified in the record as Mr. Dero) prepared the agreement and the item requires signatures from the county judge and the mayor of Fremont. Commissioners approved the interlocal agreement by motion and voice vote; no objections were recorded.
Officials said the agreement is intended to clear up responsibility for maintenance and electricity costs going forward; the meeting record contains no construction schedule or detailed maintenance standards.
