Jim Wells County auditors report positive variance; commissioners approve payrolls, bills and monthly reports; sales tax up 31%

The Jim Wells County commissioners court approved payrolls and bills (with the exception of funds 52, 53 and 54), accepted the county treasurer’s monthly report and reviewed the county auditor’s report, which was presented in the auditor’s absence.

Court members noted the auditor was not present but displayed the month-ending report on screen. The report showed revenue at 81% and a positive 1% variance for the period; several commissioners commented that most departments were under budget. A county official said sales tax was up 31% for the month and about $40,000 ahead for the year.

A motion to approve payrolls and bills was made and approved by voice vote; the auditor’s monthly report was likewise approved. Commissioners also noted a lawn-care procurement item had been removed from the agenda by the judge and was not considered.

No additional follow-up tasks or substantive policy changes relating to the auditor’s findings were recorded at the meeting.
