Tallmadge — The Tallmadge City Council voted 7-0 Thursday to appoint John Scovelli Jr. as assistant law director.
The appointment was presented by Mayor Kilway, who said Scovelli has prior experience in the assistant law director role and brings 19 years of legal practice relevant to the city's needs. At the podium, Scovelli said he was “thrilled to be considered to return back to the city of Tallmadge” and looked forward to working with Law Director Raber and city staff.
Council received Scovelli’s resume in advance and had an opportunity to ask questions; none were recorded. Clerk roll call recorded votes of yes from Jessica Epstein, Donald Pavlik, Tracy Fletcher, Ted Roy, Nick Rubino, Jonathan Bolas and Christine Cipa. Mayor Kilway declared the appointment approved by a vote of 7 to 0.
The council did not attach additional conditions or a recorded amendment to the appointment during the meeting. Scovelli thanked the council after the vote and said he looked forward to beginning work.
The appointment fills the assistant law director position and, per comments by the mayor, is intended to strengthen the city’s law office capacity.
Council members and administration indicated the appointment followed standard codified ordinance procedures for appointments; no further formal actions were taken at the meeting regarding the position.
