Tallmadge — The Tallmadge Planning and Zoning Committee told council Thursday it will schedule public hearings July 24 for two items: a zoning map amendment to add a Neighborhood Center Overlay along the Northeast Avenue corridor, and an ordinance to extend a moratorium on acceptance of zoning applications for vape or smoke establishments for six months.
Councilwoman Fletcher introduced Ordinance 2025-59 (with Exhibit A) to map the neighborhood center overlay and said a public meeting at the planning and zoning level is set for July 1 to provide detailed information to property owners in the corridor.
On the moratorium, administration said it is monitoring three pieces of legislation pending at the statehouse related to intoxicating hemp, which could alter what vape/smoke establishments may be permitted to sell. Administration recommended extending the moratorium for six months to allow time to evaluate any state action and to shape local code changes accordingly.
Council members asked whether the extension was a fixed six months or contingent; administration clarified the ordinance provides a six-month extension from the adoption date but that the moratorium could be terminated earlier if state legislative movement provides sufficient clarity.
Both items were left on the agenda for the July 24 public hearings; no final zoning changes or moratorium adoption occurred at the June 26 meeting.
