Commission recommends abandoning short stretch of Kersey Road to allow septic work for local property owner

The Bradley County Planning Commission on June 26 recommended approval of a petition to abandon the terminal portion of Kersey Road adjacent to a private property so the owner can install a septic system and build a new home.

John Sheehan spoke for the petitioner, saying Nancy Kersey lives on the parcel in question and that the family needs the road segment abandoned because state and county health rules do not allow a septic line to be placed under a county road. Sheehan described the requested abandonment as a short strip at the end of the road, needed to run a new septic line to serve a replacement house.

Staff recommended the petition for approval, noting required steps had been completed. If the county commission accepts the planning commission’s recommendation at its next meeting, staff said a quitclaim deed will be prepared to transfer the abandoned strip to the adjacent property owners and the petitioner may proceed with septic permitting.

The planning commission approved the recommendation by roll call; the item will be placed on the Bradley County Commission agenda for final action.
