Following an executive closed session, the Lubbock ISD Board of Trustees on unanimous voice votes approved two personnel actions.
Trustee Ratliff moved to hire Nathan Shortes as the district director of finance; the motion carried with no recorded opposition. Shortes introduced family members and thanked the board, saying he looked forward to working with district leadership.
The board also ratified the assignment of Justin Newman as principal of Monterey High School. Newman said the appointment was a "homecoming," noting his prior roles at Monterey and thanking outgoing principal Jack Perkipyle. Trustees and colleagues offered congratulatory remarks and expressed confidence in Newman leadership.
Why it matters: Both actions fill central leadership positions for district operations and campus leadership: the director of finance role oversees district fiscal operations, and the Monterey principalship leads one of the district high schools.
Board action: Both personnel items were approved without recorded opposition; dedications of support and expressions of congratulations followed the votes.
