The Lubbock ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved the district Open Education Resources transition plan that accompanies the recently adopted Bluebonnet reading curriculum.
Academic staff said the 60-page plan documents how the district will implement the modified Bluebonnet curriculum, how materials will be received and distributed, training timelines for teachers and administrators, and the parent opt-out process. The plan will be published on the district website after board approval.
Why it matters: The Texas Education Agency requires districts adopting certain open educational resources to publish a transition plan explaining implementation and oversight. District staff told the board the plan was developed with input from the curriculum committee, executive coaching team and administrators and is intended to provide a clear implementation roadmap and accountability.
Board action: Trustees voted 7-0 to approve publishing the plan. Staff said teachers and administrators will begin work on implementation and that parents retain the right to opt a child out of specific lessons under district policy.
Follow-up: Staff will post the plan publicly and begin training sessions tied to the adoption.
